About the Aquent Orange Book
The Aquent Orange Book is the most comprehensive salary survey and industry monitor for the marketing, communications and creative industries. This year we conducted our survey in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan.

With in-depth statistics, trend analysis and expert opinion, the Aquent Orange Book is designed to give employers the insights required to make informed staffing decisions. We explore employee tenure, talent sourcing strategies, salary increases, permanent and temporary staffing trends, staff retention strategies, staff turnover rates, benefits packages and detailed salary tables.

Annual Base Salaries for PR/Communications in Australia
The data presented in the salary tables below represent annual base salaries and are expressed in local currency. Salaries do not include super-annuation/pension, health and other employer-funded benefits.

The salary data is reported upon using the 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile. The median is that salary value which divides the sample exactly in half. In other words, for that particular staff category, half the salaries are above the median quoted and half fall below it. It therefore does not represent the average salary. A salary at the 25th percentile is the point equal to or greater than 25% of salaries collected in this survey fall.

Similarly, a 75th percentile denotes the point equal to or less than 75% of the salaries fall for that particular category of staff.

Management roles vary considerably and, as a result, the difference between the 25th percentile and the 75th percentile can be relatively wide, reflecting the fact that jobs with similar titles often carry different levels of staff and operational responsibilities.

Salary data displayed in italics in the median column of the salary tables represent data where sample sizes were insufficient for a statistically accurate result (less than seven). In these cases, data has been supplemented by a thorough analysis of the salary rates supplied by Aquent’s clients when they register job assignments. Therefore, salary table data in italics should not be viewed as a nationally representative statistical sample. They do however provide a current and specific reflection of what a significant share of those in the marketing, creative and communications industries are currently earning.

The benefits % is the average difference between the total salary package and base salary. This calculation is based on the total cost to employer and includes cash compensation, superannuation/pension, health benefits and other employer-funded benefits, such as motor vehicles.
