Well-known throughout the design industry as the Founder and Creative Director of the award winning studio Browns London, many of us are intrigued by the workings of Jonathan Ellery the artist and the balance between his studio work and his art. Jonathan has been quoted that he functions on three distinct levels; as a designer, a publisher, and as an artist. It would be interesting to know whether commercial art projects, would be responded to differently had they been undertaken by his studio. It’s those instances when art crosses over and becomes commercial. How does one draw distinction between Ellery the artist and the designer. Can one operate without the other?
