Public Relations and Media Lead

Working with this key government agency you wil be responsible for the following:

  • Lead and implement media and PR strategy to present information, advice and stories to position the organisation as a thought leader and a credible and trusted voice on a circular, climate-resilient economy.

  • Actively identify and develop proactive promotion and PR opportunities to drive increased awareness of the organisation and its work in major mainstream and digital media.

  • Lead communications issues management approach as required while building this capability more broadly in the team.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, including journalists, and negotiate with stakeholders, peers, industry bodies and other government agencies to gain co- operation, influence views and meet timelines.

  • Lead the analysis and evaluation of all media and promotion efforts.

  • Working with key internal stakeholders (especially the Government Media Lead and the Social Impact

    team), leverage the government agency's stakeholder partnerships from a media and promotions perspective to maximise the

    organisation’s reach and impact.

  • Build organisational capability, including media training for key the organisations spokespeople, to identify and tell

    inspirational stories that help drive behaviour change.


Skills and experience required:

  • Advanced written and verbal communications skills with demonstrated ability to develop cross-channel content for specific audiences

  • Proven successful development and delivery of coordinated media and promotional strategies to reach key target audiences through appropriate channels, using evidence and analysis

  • Proven experience in influencing and collaborating with critical stakeholders, including journalists and government executives to achieve strategic outcomes

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate staff to deliver outcomes, even if they are not direct reports

  • Ability to deliver under pressure and manage multiple projects in a changing and complex environment with competing stakeholders and timeframes.

  • Extensive experience in journalism and/or media relations management, including risk and crisis communications, with demonstrated understanding of the needs and decision-making processes of media outlets
