Digitalks webinar: The ‘New Old’ Megatrend: A missing demographic in your digital marketing strategy?
We’re kicking off our 2021 series of #digitalks webinars with Jeff Sanders, one of Australia’s leading database marketing agency specialists. He’ll be talking about the ‘longer lives’ megatrend which has opened up a powerful, high-spending category of 50 to 75 year old’s who buy and behave differently to other age segments. These are the ‘New Old’.
The topic is: The ‘New Old’ Megatrend: A missing demographic in your digital marketing strategy?
In Australia, this is about 3.2M people who hold around 70% of the disposable income. They’re healthy, wealthy, social, online and looking to enjoy life. Unfortunately, many marketers haven’t noticed this seismic shift and continue to ignore this growth segment. The problem, of course, is that if 50+ is not on your radar, you’re not on theirs either. And that’s money left on the table.
Hootsuite’s 2021 Social Trends Report backs this up and says: “Marketers that diversify how they reach this increasingly digitally-savvy and lucrative demographic can leapfrog other organisations that are still blinded by ageism and stereotypes”.
In this 45 minute presentation, Jeff Sanders, Partner of Fifty Not Out will discuss:
Six principles that will address the new ageing megatrend
Money talks — and older adults dominate the conversation
How to communicate with the New/Old
Digital First … not Digital Native
Culturally connected … not just the same way as their kids
We hope you can join us and please feel free to invite your friends and colleagues too. The webinar is free to attend and we will also send the recording to anyone who registers.

With nearly 1 in 5 people in Australia having a disability, digital accessibility is becoming increasingly important for all businesses with an online presence. In addition, with more people working remotely, many have had to take up digital ways of working and communicating which has been a catalyst for organisations to pay a lot more attention to their websites and digital touchpoints.
At its core, accessibility is about delivering truly inclusive experiences which lead to multiple benefits – improved customer experience, strengthened brand presence, and a reduction in legal risks.
At our #Digitalks webinar, Andrew Miller, Program Director and Jeremy Osborn, Academic Director of Aquent Gymnasium explained a new way of thinking about accessibility, and introduced the key concepts behind inclusive design to help organisations map a path for a more accessible future for everyone.
During the 45 minute presentation, they covered:
Why it’s important for digital content to be accessible
The legal risk of not prioritising accessibility, plus the business opportunities
Why designing for accessibility results in designs that benefit everyone
Who is responsible for accessibility
The most common accessibility problems to address
How to test for accessibility issues
The process to address accessibility for your organisation
Digitalks webinar: How to tackle mental health and wellbeing for you and your team
As we adapt to the impacts of 2020, one thing has risen to the top of the agenda — mental wellbeing — a concern that has never been more openly talked about. Business leaders and their teams are feeling levels of stress and anxiety they have never experienced before, and many have colleagues or friends who are struggling to cope.
So how do we check-in with our teams and provide the right leadership and support during these challenging times? One of the greatest rugby union players of all time, All Black legend and co-founder of workplace wellbeing app Mentemia, Sir John Kirwan provided practical ideas and insights alongside his colleague, health psychology specialist Dr Fiona Crichton.
Sir John Kirwan (known to most as JK) was one of the most high-profile rugby players on the planet. But during that time he was hiding a serious mental health crisis. He shared his journey from surviving to thriving, what tools and techniques keep him at the top of his game today, and how these can help you and your team.
In their 45 minute webinar, JK and Fiona covered: - Practical tips on how to check in and support your people in this ‘new normal’ - How to foster a culture of wellbeing in your team - Leadership advice for remote and hybrid work models - The importance of a daily mental health plan and what that means - How digital self-help tools like Mentemia can help (and are already helping staff at leading Australian and Kiwi companies)
