We’ve kicked off our 2021 series of #digitalks​ webinars with Jeff Sanders, one of Australia’s leading database marketing agency specialists from Fifty Not Out. He talked about the ‘longer lives’ megatrend which has opened up a powerful, high-spending category of 50 to 75 year old’s who buy and behave differently to other age segments. These are the ‘New Old’.

In Australia, this is about 3.2M people who hold around 70% of the disposable income. They’re healthy, wealthy, social, online and looking to enjoy life. Unfortunately, many marketers haven’t noticed this seismic shift and continue to ignore this growth segment. The problem, of course, is that if 50+ is not on your radar, you’re not on theirs either. And that’s money left on the table.

Hootsuite’s 2021 Social Trends Report backs this up and says: “Marketers that diversify how they reach this increasingly digitally-savvy and lucrative demographic can leapfrog other organisations that are still blinded by ageism and stereotypes”.

With nearly 1 in 5 people in Australia having a disability, digital accessibility is becoming increasingly important for all businesses with an online presence.
