We’re helping a small digital team find a UX/UI Designer who’s not just skilled in design craft, but is naturally curious, great at connecting dots, and able to bring structure to messy, ambiguous problems.

This role suits someone who thinks in systems, isn’t afraid of legacy tech or unclear requirements, and loves working through complexity to create thoughtful, user-friendly experiences.

It’s less about jazzy UI outputs and more about logic, structure and clarity. While there’s always a visual element, the real focus is untangling complex workflows and designing experiences that make the complicated feel simple. You’ll be mapping flows, spotting pain points and connecting the dots between user needs and technical constraints.

If you’re someone who enjoys diving into messy processes, mapping journeys and working closely with developers to bring logic and usability together, this could be a great fit.

The kind of person who’ll thrive in this role is someone who:

  • Is calm and confident in the grey. You don’t need everything mapped out before you start
  • Can take a mess of content, manual steps and user pain points, and start to make sense of it
  • Likes working closely with developers, talking through logic, structure and sequencing
  • Understands users, intent and behaviour, and can reflect that in well-thought-out processes
  • Works iteratively and knows that sometimes progress looks like chipping away, not launching the full flow all at once
  • Can manage their time and focus across a couple of bigger priorities, rather than juggling a dozen things a day

Communication is everything in this role. You need to have a voice, someone who’s comfortable speaking up, sharing ideas, asking questions and pushing back when needed. Whether you’re in a workshop, chatting with a dev or talking through logic with a client, you’ll need to be clear, confident and collaborative.

Why this role is worth considering:

  • You’ll be working directly with a highly experienced design lead. Someone who’s thoughtful, collaborative and genuinely invested in helping you grow, both in your craft and your way of thinking
  • There’s a strong focus on meaningful design work. It’s not about churning through as much work as possible as fast as possible, it’s about solving real problems and making a difference to how people use and experience digital products
  • You’ll have ownership and autonomy, but also support. You won’t be micromanaged, but you won’t be left to figure everything out alone either
  • It’s a great step if you’re looking to move into more strategic, systems-led design. Especially if you’re ready to stretch beyond just UI execution and you crave complexity

The role itself:

  • This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.
  • Salary between $110K and $130K + super depending on experience
  • Hybrid working with one day onsite per week in Fitzroy (easy tram access, tricky parking)
  • There’s growth here, with plans to expand the design team over the next year
