About
Hello, I’m Karen. I’m a Talent Agent at Aquent, specialising in permanent recruitment across design, creative, marketing and digital.
I’m passionate about building long-term relationships with both clients and candidates. For me, great recruitment isn’t about simply filling a role. It’s about understanding the business, the people and what success looks like, then finding the right fit for everyone involved.
Before joining Aquent, I spent 10 years running my own outdoor fitness business. Being a business owner taught me a lot about people, building a team, making decisions and, of course, adapting when things don’t go according to plan. It also gave me a real appreciation for how important the right people are to a business.
I’ve brought that experience with me into recruitment, along with my background in design and creative. I love getting to know how teams work, what makes someone great at what they do and where a person might really thrive, rather than just looking at a job title and ticking boxes.
I’m also a big believer in bringing people together outside of the recruitment process. I host a monthly, invite-only Design Leaders Coffee Club in Sydney, where a small group of senior design leaders get together for good coffee and honest conversations about what’s happening in the industry. No presentations, no sales pitches, just a chance to connect and share ideas.
I’ve built some great relationships with people over the years, and that’s probably the part of recruitment I enjoy most. I want to be someone my clients and candidates can pick up the phone to, whether they’re hiring, looking for their next opportunity or just want to talk through what’s happening in the market.
Outside of work, I’m a mum to two little ones, so I’m pretty familiar with the juggle of work, family and everything in between. There’s usually a lot of coffee involved.
